8 Films that Best Represent the OT 2023 Contestants

Published: 1 Dec, 2023

On the multi-coloured stage of ‘OT 2023‘, each contestant is more than just a voice: they are stories, emotions and an eclectic mix of personalities that we can laugh with and relate to beyond the music that they’re playing. At audiovisual translation agency, we have embarked on an adventure to figure out what film describes every contestant that walks onto the stage of ‘Operación Triunfo 2023‘. Can you tell already who would be directed by Almodóvar or who would be the star of Lady Bird? Find out in this post!

1. Martin: The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Jim Sharman, 1975)

‘Cause he’s a walking show. ‘Cause he’s a dancing queen, even at rehearsals. ‘Cause he’s the type to sing Sweet Transvestite at the final gala. ‘Cause that mustache is so 70’s.

2. Naiara: My Name Is Juani (Bigas Luna, 2006)

‘Cause she would leave everything behind to make her dream come true.. ‘Cause she doesn’t walk onto the stage, she strides it. ‘Cause she likes horsing, cars and tattoos. ‘Cause we will bury her with a pair of hoops in her ears.

3. Chiara: Lady Bird (Greta Gerwig, 2017)

‘Cause Menorca is her Sacramento. ‘Cause she enjoys a change of scene and the feeling of freedom. ‘Cause if she goes shopping, her mother has to come along. ‘Cause she’s not flirting, she’s just being herself.

4. Juanjo: Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (Pedro Almodóvar, 1988)

‘Cause he’s just as natural as an almodovarian film. ‘Cause he complains about everything. ‘Cause he would sing you an Aragonese ‘jota’ and then he would make you some gazpacho. ‘Cause, as he himself said, he’s ‘un folklórico’, pure folklore.

5. Violeta: Jennifer’s Body (Karyn Kusama, 2009)

‘Cause she would kill for sushi. ‘Cause she feels attracted to her gal pal *sighs*. ‘Cause everyone would gaze at her in the high school corridors. Cause she could be a cheerleader, a reporter and a finalist on Operación Triunfo.

6. Ruslana: Almost Famous (Cameron Crowe, 2000)

‘Cause if she were on the cover of a magazine, she would be on Rolling Stone. ‘Cause she’s just that sure of herself. ‘Cause she would join a rock band only for the caravan tours. ‘Cause she never irons her clothes, her life ‘is fucking rock and roll’.

7. Cris: John Tucker Must Die (Betty Thomas, 2006)

‘Cause he’s not one to hide when she likes a girl (or two). ‘Cause his crush is a lesbian. ‘Cause of the confidence that he shows in himself. ‘Cause he manages to get women to rub along with each other.

8. Bea: Easy A (Will Gluck, 2010)

‘Cause she’s hilarious without even trying. ‘Cause coloured eyeliners are her Roman Empire. ‘Cause she’ll get a party started on the terrace with some tea. ‘Cause she’s got a pocket full of sunshine.

But, what is it that music and cinema really have in common?

Music and films share an intrinsic bond through their ability to tell stories, convey emotions and touch the audiences’ hearts. Both forms of artistic expression have the power to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers, but in order to realise their full potential on a global scale, a good audiovisual translation is a must-have when we come across a song that gives meaning to a key moment in the film, for example.

At Ponle Subtítulos we’re experts in song subtitling and song translation for dubbing. If you have any doubts or questions, get in contact with us. We’ll be more than happy to help!
